Giving Unique Decor Accents at Christmas

Christmas gift giving is upon us and since we are a generation that seems to have everything we could possibly need already, I’ve been shopping and wracking my brain hard for distinctive gifts for friends and customers.

These gifts are a little trickier to buy because an accent has to fit the home or room of the recipient - and as a Christmas gift you’ll want them to be truly special and well thought out. Thankfully my range is wide because most of my friends and clients are into country decorating, so easy to mix the old with the new.

Accents, collections, distinctive pieces. They give a house personality, make a house a home. Accents can be furniture, rugs, blankets, statues, framed prints, and even lighting. The possibilities are endless when looking for an object that creates a unique and original ambiance.

Here are some creative ideas I’ve been toying with for a few close friends…

Plates! Decorative groupings in untraditional settings such as the living room or bedroom. These look great on small, side walls or nooks. In colors or with designs that match the room. Not focal points, just tasteful accents.

On the other hand, some of my farmhouse decorators will love the old chamber pot look. A nice crazed-glazing set would be welcomed in traditional florals (roses are back full swing), or in the current and charming blue and white patterns. Plus the small ones are functional as vases for dried or fresh flowers!

Personal items such as journals or notebooks are popping up everywhere in the most beautiful - some even handmade - designs. One by the bedside is a nice accent that can be used as a dream journal. Nice gifts with a special pen that ‘fit’ the room perfectly!

Speaking of books, some nice new blank scrapbooks or photo albums that match a room are also great accents with a purpose.

Oh and little pillows! For just about any room but the bathroom! Coming in all colors and shapes and sizes with a variety of fabrics. Important decorative accents that often get overlooked when redecorating a room, but appreciated and used when given as a gift.

I’d better get moving! I’ve only got a few weeks to find, buy and wrap!
